Welcome to Hatch Heritage and Steam Engineers. We repair and renovate road and rail steam vehicles, together with related items of historical industrial machinery.
Colin's interest in all things steam began at an early age, due to railway steam and the Wednesday afternoon visits to the Swindon Railway workshops. In 1967, steam on BR finished, and (together with brother Ian), an introduction to a steam roller owner in 1969 began an active 'hands on' interest in road steam. An apprenticeship with British leyland UK in the early 1970's as a Millwright, working on all types of machinery, power presses, compressors and factory boilers, was augmented by crewing and restoration of traction engines.
Following positions in career development, in two Drawing and Design offices, with qualifications gained including membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, together with registration with the Engineering Council, the steam hobby took over from normal engineering, and from 1991 the beginning of the current works site was established. Ian joined the business in 2005 from a time served engineering background which began in 1968.
